How YOU Can Support the TEDMED Great Challenge: The Overlooked Cancer Cohort of Adolescents and Young Adults
The TEDMED 2012 Conference (in Washington, D.C. on April 10-13) features the Great Challenges Program, an initiative to gather professionals and innovators around the country dedicated to alleviating health and medical issues that have become deeply rooted challenges. Fifty challenges have been proposed for the Great Challenges Program and will be voted upon. The top 20 challenges chosen will be the focus of TEDMED over the next year.

A follow-up question to understanding the different causes of AYA cancer is to find appropriate regimens and to discover novel treatments specific for the AYA population. The five-year survival rates of AYAs diagnosed with cancer have not improved in the past two decades, and it is with the support of the TEDMED Great Challenges Program and the knowledge and expertise of health and medical professionals that we hope to see those rates improve.

The TEDMED Great Challenges Program will bring the medical community closer to answering this question. AYA cancers are a focus of the “Overlooked Cancer Cohort” and AYAs are a medically underserved population whose disease requires greater research and understanding.
